Trends Autumn/Winter 09-'10: Knitwear

Winter is my favourite time of the year when it comes to dressing and this year, bundling up is going to be fun!

First up, KNIT WEAR. Knits are textured and come in strong, bright and jewel colours this winter.

Long and short cardigans and tunics went down the catwalk in a vast array of Aran style cable knits, fine knits, striped pieces, asymmetric styles, batwing or dropped sleeves, leg-of-mutton sleeves and cowl necklines.

I love LOVE the cowl necks that are so oversized they look more like snoods.

In some cases, the longer length thicker cardigan serves as an alternative to a coat. You can go with a long skinny fine knit silhouette or a bulkier, layered and more textural.

How to wear it?

Look out for cardigans which have interesting patterns, such as mohair printed tie-dye knits. They change the overall appearance of a plain dress or can be paired with colourful contrast tights.

Patterned knits can be mixed with patterned fabrics and striped cardigans can be tastefully mixed with florals and animal accessories.
