Trends Autumn/Winter '09-'10: Jackets (Part 1)

The  boyfriendblazer

Springing up directly from the ‘female dandy’ trend, designers have taken this pretty masculine statement piece and softened it up. The sleeves are skinny, the waist is taken in to complement the distinct strong shoulders but please, no 80's Dynasty/Dallas style shoulder pads!

This new shoulder is sharp, sculpted and fuller not to your ears ‘let’s play some American football’ high and you can wear it with almost everything in your wardrobe.

Antonio Bernardi, Dolce and Gabbana and of course Christophe Decarnin at Balmain are in the forefront when it come to this type of shoulder.

For an interesting twist, there’s also the sequin blazer, the velvet blazer, the brocade blazer or the gold/copper/bronze lamé blazer. Enjoy!

How to wear it?

The blazer looks smart when paired with jeans or pants. Last year it was frequently worn over skinny pants but I have a crush on the blazers with this winter’s wider legged pants.

The boyfriend blazer can also be draped over this winter’s shirt and complements delicate dresses beautifully.

You can wear it with ripped jeans (a la Rihanna) OR rolled up boyfriend jeans OR winter denim shorts and brogues/biker boots for a downtown look…

…or pair it with a classic pencil skirt/slim peg leg pants and pumps for an uptown smart look.

For an up to date ‘on trend’ look, pair them with over the knee boots.
