Classically versatile

Named after the date of its birth (February, 1955), this little beaut represents the epitome of style and the ultimate status symbol. Don't let the loaded hipsters who throw it over filthy jeans fool you.

Legend has it, the Chanel 2.55 bag was one of the most revolutionary of its time due to the introduction of a chain strap, enabling women to carry their purse on their arm instead of in their hand. At this time, when socialites were busy holding their glasses of champagne, eating canapés, and reading their theatre programmes, Chanel recognized a need for women to have their hands free.

Decades later, the 2.55 remains one of the most instantly recognized iconic designer bags, 'The Birkin' bag perhaps, coming a close second. Even if you don't know what it's called, you know this bag. It's inspired epic imitation. But fret not, mama Chanel doesn't mind. she's been quoted...
“I would shed tears the day no one copied me.”

Carine Roitfeld over at CR Book (crfashionbook.com) had fun with it. Behold, the classis Chanel 2.55 bag in all it's diverse glory...
